Description

The 2026 Porsche 911 Turbo S is here, with a new twin-turbo 3.6L engine! Turbo S Global Premiere - https://www.youtube.com/live/CcBNYw8pjs8?si=9ZvN6QWdt4EJ7SfK Subscribe to Engineering Explained for more videos! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 There's a new Porsche 911 Turbo S, and it's upped the game even further, as it is now the most powerful production Porsche 911 ever. What was already a ridiculously fast car is now even quicker, thanks to a new 3.6L twin-turbo boxer engine, as well as a hybrid system, good for a peak of 701 combined horsepower. That's the result of not only the 6-cylinder, but two electric turbos, plus an electric motor sandwiched between the engine and transmission, a 61 horsepower bump over the predecessor, and a significantly wider torque curve thanks to the electric turbos and low-end grunt of the e-motor. In this video, we'll deep dive into the new engine and powertrain, and discuss how it differs from the previous Turbo S, as well as the latest GTS T-Hybrid, which also carries the 3.6L boxer 6, albeit with a single electric turbo. We'll cover why the turbos no longer need wastegates, and many other features the electrification strategy eliminates. We'll also dive into lambda = 1, and talk about emissions strategies, and how it's possible to build a performance engine that still meets emission regulations. And finally, we'll cap it all of with a little whiteboard math with Patrick Dempsey, explaining to him how to calculate the 0-200-0 km/h time of the new 911 Turbo S - what an honor!
