(If using smoked meat, brown it in olive oil.) Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds—don’t let it burn. Toss in green beans and stir to coat in the bacon fat and garlic. Add chicken broth, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, crushed red pepper, and a pinch of salt. Cover and simmer 20–25 minutes until tender but not mushy. Stir in butter and let melt through. Taste and adjust seasoning.
