Toyota breaks new ground by introducing full hybrid technology to the A-segment with the new Aygo X Hybrid—bringing electrification to the most compact and accessible vehicle in its range, without sacrificing its bold urban crossover styling. The new hybrid powertrain, already available in the Yaris and Yaris Cross, replaces the previous 1.0-litre petrol engine, delivering more power and quicker acceleration for a more dynamic and exciting drive. Adapting the Aygo X to house hybrid components while maintaining a 2,430 mm wheelbase and boot space required an innovative packaging approach. For the first time in a Toyota hybrid, the battery cells are arranged side by side across the full width of the vehicle in a longitudinal layout beneath the rear seats. Unlike the traditional parallel layout used in other hybrids, this solution saves space. The auxiliary battery has also been relocated under the load area to preserve boot capacity. To fit the larger hybrid system, the front overhang has been extended by 76 mm, achieved through optimized packaging while preserving the Aygo X’s compact proportions. Thanks to Toyota’s full hybrid technology, the Aygo X Hybrid is perfectly suited for urban driving, with best-in-class CO₂ emissions projected at just 86 g/km—ensuring compliance with low-emission zones. At the same time, the 116 hp output (44 hp more than the non-hybrid version) allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 10 seconds, making it more capable and comfortable for longer journeys too. Urban agility is enhanced by the GA-B platform, a low centre of gravity, and a tight turning radius of just 4.7 metres, making manoeuvring in tight spaces effortless. Ride quality is also significantly improved thanks to enhanced sound insulation, upgraded exhaust systems, thicker windows, and sound-deadening materials throughout the cabin. On the safety front, the Aygo X Hybrid benefits from the full Toyota Safety Sense suite, including a pre-collision system, lane keep assist, road sign recognition, emergency stop assist, and proactive driving assist.
