How do walkers actually work in The Walking Dead? In this video essay I take a closer look at the anatomy of walkers and the so-called rules of zombie biology in The Walking Dead. The show has always told us that a simple brain shot is the only way to kill them, that a single zombie bite is always fatal, and that somehow these corpses never really suffer from starvation. Add in the winter episodes where frozen walkers appear, and the later twist of variant walkers, and you get a set of rules that sound clear at first but fall apart once you think about them. In this breakdown, I go through what the series actually shows us about walkers, where the logic of The Walking Dead zombies doesn’t line up, and how a few small changes in their anatomy and science could have made the story feel more consistent without losing any of the tension. From the early CDC scans in Season 1, tainted meat, Negan’s infected weapons, to the odd choice of frozen walkers in snow, The Walking Dead keeps trying to explain its monsters. But even with all these details, the show never fully commits to a clear set of rules for its zombies. If you liked this and want to see more, hit like, comments, and subscribe. I’m on the road to 1,000 subscribers. When we hit it, I’ll do a facereveal Q&A while eating a Carolina Reaper or the One Chip at the same time. You know the drill. Also please correct me in the comments if i got any information wrong/missed anything. This video includes clips and footage from the The Walking Dead franchise (and related media), all used under fair use for commentary, criticism, and discussion.
