Fortunately, there were no casualties as police in the city of Maerkang had closed the bridge to all traffic the previous day. Authorities had detected cracks on nearby slopes and roads, as well as shifts in the mountainous terrain, prompting the precautionary closure. On the afternoon of November 11, conditions on the mountainside deteriorated, triggering a landslide that led to the collapse of the bridge's approach and roadbed. The Hongqi Bridge was a significant infrastructure project, connecting the heartland of China with Tibet on National Highway 317. Known as the "Bridge in the Clouds," its main pier stood at an impressive 172 meters high. The bridge was located near the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station, and its collapse has raised questions, with some sources suggesting a link to the recent inauguration of the world's tallest hydroelectric power dam nearby. The structure was situated in a seismically active zone and was reportedly engineered to withstand powerful earthquakes. An investigation into the precise cause of the collapse is underway. 00:00 Intro Hongqi Bridge collapse in China 00:20 Videos of the Chinese bridge collapse 00:41 About the Hongqi Bridge collapse 03:20 Satellite photos of the Hongqi Bridge 06:23 Analysis of eyewitness videos of bridge collapse 10:49 Previous cases of geological issues in construction 12:13 How engineers could have prevented the bridge collapse
