Designed in 1929 by Warren & Wetmore—the architects behind Grand Central Terminal—it embodied the elegance of early 20th-century Manhattan with its limestone façade, sculptural reliefs, and celebrated Art Deco details. When the structure was demolished in 1980, much of that artistry was lost forever.
