In fact there are more bicycles in the Netherlands than residents - and in huge cities like Groningen, Utrecht or Amsterdam up to 70% of all journeys are made by bike. While in other countries like Germany riding a bike is always some kind of a near-death experience, the Dutch created a casual biking culture with a vast network of clearly marked and huge cycle paths.
