Dooku shows Qui-Gon Jinn his real mentality when it comes to the outside galaxy and who to call your friend. Dooku always strayed away from the Jedi in Star Wars and I don't believe he aligned himself much with the Sith, but rather felt closer to them than the dogmatic controlling Jedi. I feel Dooku's words in this novel really show us who he is going to become, later, and the contrast between him and Qui-Gon Jinn.
