In 2018, he received the First-Class Award for Outstanding Works in the History of Chinese Economic Thought. Dr. Chiu has previously taught at Bryant University in the USA, Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai College, Shenzhen University, Hong Kong Shue Yan University, and the Institute of Modern History at Academia Sinica in Taiwan, University of London Queen Mary Visiting Fellow. He has held positions as Visiting Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and Senior Visiting Scholar. Currently, he serves as a Research Fellow (part-time) at the Centre for Hong Kong and Taiwan Studies at National Sun Yat-sen University.
