In this video, @RGoodLaw and I unpack a deeply disturbing development in a federal immigration case you may not have heard about: D.V.D. v. DHS. A Massachusetts federal judge issued a clear temporary restraining order to stop the government from removing individuals to third-party countries without providing them notice and a meaningful opportunity to contest such removal. But days after this order, various people covered by the ruling were flown by the government to the infamous CECOT prison in El Salvador. The government now claims it wasn’t DHS, but the Department of Defense, that carried out the removals—which appears to be a shell game to circumvent the TRO. As Ryan and I discuss, it is not at all clear that this is not a deliberate violation of the court’s order by both the DHS and DOD.
