A Crown CD-80 kept cropping up time and again during my eBay searches for broken CD players. It looked like a total mess and so I avoided it. But when the price dropped below $10, I figured it was worth buying purely to see just how bad it was inside. I then bought an identical machine that was in much better condition so that I had a comparison point. What followed was a somewhat foolhardy and very time-consuming experiment to see whether there was any way of bringing the trashed one back to life. Outro music: Calvary by TrackTribe
