Dawn Walk to Nachi Falls | Wakayama, Japan

Video Description

A peaceful dawn walk from Kumano Nachi Taisha, past Sanjuno-to 3-Storied Pagoda, and down to the base of Nachi Waterfall, a sacred Japanese waterfall in Wakayama. I wasn't exactly where to start this walk, I'd considered starting at the waterfall and doing a loop up and down, but in the end I decided to start predawn on the stairs leading up to the temples and do a loop from there. The air quality wasn't great due to a recent volcanic eruption in Kagoshima, so I thought it would be good to get a look at the horizons and the mountains both before and after the sunrise. I was happy to hear the sounds of flowing water around the temples, as well as the morning nature sounds, which made for a very peaceful and relaxing walk. Nachi Falls is the tallest waterfall in Japan with a continuous drop (133 meters), and is also a sacred spot. I saw a poster that the following week there would be a fire festival, perhaps something to check out another time. This was somewhat of a scouting trip, as I'm hoping to walk the 3 day Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage trail sometime this fall. We get a few glimpses of the trail on this walk, and even a few steps along the path.
