President Donald Trump says he's willing to enact the Insurrection Act if necessary, but so far it hasn't been. "We have an Insurrection Act for a reason," he said. "If I had to enact it - I'd do that. If people were being killed, and courts were holding us up, or governors or mayors were holding us up." He added: "We have to make sure our cities are safe." The Insurrection Act of 1807 allows the president to dispatch active-duty military in states that are unable to put down an insurrection or are defying federal law. Under the law, the president can activate troops without a governor’s approval as long as specific conditions are met, such as if the violence is interfering with the execution of laws there. Trump also dodged a question on whether he'd consider pardoning Jeffrey Epstein's former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, saying he will "speak to the DOJ" about it. But he offered that he’s also been asked for one by Sean “Diddy” Combs. “I have a lot of people who have asked me for pardons,” Trump said. He added, “Puff Daddy has asked me for a pardon.” “Puff Daddy” is a name the influential hip-hop figure has used professionally. Combs representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Combs was sentenced last week to four years and two months in prison for transporting people across state lines for sexual encounters. The Supreme Court earlier on Monday rejected an appeal from Maxwell, the imprisoned former girlfriend of Epstein. Lawyers for Maxwell argued that she never should have been tried or convicted for her role in luring teenage girls to be sexually abused by Epstein, a New York financier. As for Maxwell, Trump said he hadn't heard her name in "so long” after a reporter asked about the possibility of a pardon for the British socialite. “I'm going to have to take a look at it,” he said. “I have to ask DOJ.”
