Global National: Dec. 6, 2025 | 62 Indigenous artifacts returned to Canada after century in Vatican
Description
More than 60 Indigenous artifacts were returned to Canada Saturday morning after spending a century at the Vatican. The priceless items were taken from Indigenous communities in 1925 and put on display as part of the Vatican's missionary exhibition. The repatriation of the items makes good on a promise first made by the late Pope Francis three years ago. Mike Armstrong reports on the emotional homecoming and why Indigenous groups hope it's just the beginning. Saturday also marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, held to honour the 14 women who were murdered in an anti-feminist shooting at École Polytechnique in 1989, as well as other victims. As Felicia Parillo reports, those gathered at the school for a memorial warned that violence against women remains an urgent problem. Plus, FIFA has released the full schedule for the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. This summer will mark the first time Canada has ever co-hosted the world's most popular tournament. Fans hoping to attend a match in Vancouver or Toronto now know which teams are coming to town. The schedule follows yesterday's pool draw event in Washington, D.C., that was attended by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump, alongside some of the biggest stars in sport. Mackenzie Gray has the latest. And, plans are underway to expand Trump's already extensive travel ban to even more countries. The White House warns that more than 30 countries could face restrictions at a time when the U.S. is preparing to host the world for next summer's FIFA World Cup. Candice Cole has more from Washington.
