Goulash-American Style

So delicious and so easy and simple. Reminiscent of my childhood, this is a pantry friendly, hardy one pot meal. Kids and adults both love goulash. This is a great cold weather comfort meal which can be put together in 15 to 20 minutes. #easy #onepotmeal #pasta #kidfriendly #hardy #pantryfriendly #familyfriendly #weeknightdinners GOULASH – AMERICAN STYLE 1 pound lean ground beef 1 large yellow onion, chopped Minced garlic, to taste (I used a tablespoon of jar-lic) 1 24-ounce jar of tomato pasta sauce (I used Marinara but any that you like will work) Beef broth – rinse the pasta sauce jar with the broth and pour into your pot 1 can (14-ounce) can of diced tomatoes, undrained I 6-ounce jar of tomato paste Italian seasoning, to taste (about 2 teaspoons) Salt and black pepper, to taste 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked Shredded cheese, cheddar or mozzarella for serving, optional In a Dutch oven or other large pot with a lid, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat until no pink remains. Drain well. Add the chopped onion and garlic. Cook until onion is tender and almost translucent. Add the pasta sauce, broth, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper and any other seasoning that you like. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the macaroni reduce heat to medium-low, cover and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the lid and simmer an additional 10 minutes or so or until the pasta is tender. Remove from heat and let rest for about 5 minutes. The pasta will thicken. Serve and enjoy! NOTE: You can add the cheese (if using) right after removing the pasta from the heat. Just top your pasta, replace the lid and let it set until the cheese melts. I prefer to serve the cheese after the Goulash is dished up. Each person can add their own.
