I Tried Walking the Entire Seoul City Wall in One Night

Join me as I take on the challenge to walk the Seoul City Wall at night. The Seoul City Wall (Hanyangdoseong) is an 18.6 km historic fortress built in 1396 during the Joseon Dynasty. It follows the ridges of four mountains—Bugaksan, Naksan, Namsan, and Inwangsan—and connects eight gates around the old capital. The official trail is divided into six sections. You can walk them all in one go (though it’s tough), or do them one by one. But there’s little to no information about walking the wall at night. So instead of guessing, I decided to do it myself and see if it’s actually possible. You can easily find the Seoul City Wall trail map online. I know many foreigners come to South Korea, stay in Seoul, and want to do some hikes, and the city wall hike is perfect for fulfilling this need. You can make it as difficult as you want. 서울 성곽을 밤에 한 바퀴 도는 도전에 나섰습니다. 서울 성곽(한양도성)은 조선 시대인 1396년에 지어진, 총 길이 18.6km의 역사적인 성곽이에요. 북악산, 낙산, 남산, 인왕산, 네 개의 산 능선을 따라 이어지며, 옛 도성을 둘러싼 여덟 개의 성문을 연결하고 있습니다. 공식 성곽길은 여섯 개 구간으로 나뉘어 있어요. 한 번에 전부 걸을 수도 있고(솔직히 꽤 힘듭니다), 구간별로 나눠서 걸을 수도 있죠. 그런데 문제는, 밤에 걷는 성곽길에 대한 정보가 거의 없다는 것이에요. 그래서 추측하는 대신, 제가 직접 해보기로 했습니다. 과연 가능할까요? 서울 성곽길 지도는 온라인에서 쉽게 찾을 수 있어요. 한국에 오는 많은 외국인들이 서울에 머물면서 하이킹을 해보고 싶어 하는데, 서울 성곽길은 그 욕구를 딱 채워주는 코스라고 생각해요. 원하면 정말 쉽고 가볍게도, 또 원하면 꽤 빡세게도 걸을 수 있으니까요.
