We roll into Interlaken from Lucerne and find a city literally sandwiched between two lakes and wrapped in mountains. Paragliders drift down all afternoon, spotless buses shuttle through town, and a perfect-weather streak makes the views pop. A steep ride on the Harder Kulm funicular tunnels through the mountain and opens to a skywalk platform with unreal panoramas over Lakes Thun and Brienz. Next morning we take the Golden Pass Express toward Montreux. Panoramic windows frame deep-blue Lake Thun, wooden homes with flowered balconies, and meadows where cows graze with bells shining. Mid-route, the train’s engineering takes over—wheel and rail changes, a steeper climb, and tight switchbacks—before gliding past a ski resort. One turn later and it’s a different world: Château D’, Lake Geneva, palm trees, and vineyards—the Swiss Riviera.
