Sin embargo, también representa un importante centro de investigación científica, donde se realizan estudios sobre su flora, fauna y territorio, además de promover la conservación y el cuidado del medioambiente. Este documental se desarrolla durante la primera campaña de invierno de La Armada Chilena en el buque Piloto Pardo, y se extiende hasta el verano, donde se acompaña a investigadores del Instituto Antártico Chileno (INACH) en parte de sus intensas labores.
