Painting spooky shadow magic is something of a specialty of mine. If any of you know my personal work, I am actually well known for making horror and dark artwork (lucky you). When drawing darkness and shadow magic / magical effects you need to really focus on the values of the piece. It's easier to draw your shadow magic if the background is lighter than the pitch black void you're brushing into the piece. I recorded this live over on my twitch.
