Video Description

Hi! Today is the restoration of a mysterious piece of dirt that my friend brought me. He often searches for things using a metal detector. This item has been lying on my balcony for more than three weeks and was waiting for its turn. Well, I'm starting to restore the item. The object is covered with a thick layer of earth. I dipped a jar into the mysterious piece of mud and poured warm water into it. And I kept it that way for more than two days. When all the dirt was gone, I took out the object and realized that it was a knife. The strangest thing was that it had a horn grip. But there was one overlap, there was no second one. The knife was also covered with a rather deep rust with corrosion. I put the item in the rust remover. After cleaning, I placed the blade in water with baking soda to stop the acid effect. Next, I cleaned the surface with an iron brush and started sanding by hand. Due to the fact that the blade is very thin in some places, I did not use any mechanical tools at hand, only manually. I also adjusted the shape of the handle because it was very uncomfortable. Obviously, this knife was once made from some kind of mechanical saw, but the hardness of the knife seemed insufficient to me. After adjusting the shape, I re-tempered the blade in oil and performed all the steps in the heat treatment of the blade. Then I sanded it again and made the handle. One part of the handle is made of beech, the other is made of oak. Pins are aluminum and I used epoxy glue. After shaping the handle, I conducted a test for you, as usual. Don't forget to share this video. Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention! Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!
