Video Description

Ruth Snyder (1895–1928) was an American housewife who became infamous for plotting the murder of her husband, Albert Snyder, with her lover, Henry Judd Gray. Unhappy in her marriage, she persuaded Gray to help kill Albert for insurance money. In 1927, they staged his death as a burglary, but their poorly planned crime quickly unraveled. Both were arrested, tried, and convicted. Snyder’s execution in the electric chair at Sing Sing Prison in 1928 became legendary when a hidden camera captured the moment, making it one of the most infamous crime photos in history. Her case inspired books and films, including Double Indemnity, highlighting themes of betrayal, greed, and the fatal consequences of crime.
