Residents in Crowborough, East Sussex, have formed a local patrol group after the government announced plans to house around 500 asylum seekers at a former Army barracks. The group, called the Crowborough Fast Reaction Patrol, says the community feels “under threat” following the decision. The Labour government’s scheme, announced in October, would place up to 540 single men at the 37-acre training camp as part of efforts to reduce the use of hotels. The plan has sparked strong opposition from locals. The volunteer patrol began its first outing on Saturday. Members say they will focus on school run times, parks, and poorly lit streets, acting as a visible presence and alerting authorities if they see anything that needs police attention.
