Station Nightclub Fire Survivor Returns to the Scene

On February 20, 2003, The Station nightclub in West Warwick, RI was destroyed by a fire that killed 100 people and injured over 200. It was the fourth deadliest fire in a nightclub in US history. In “Returning to The Station,” Robert Feeney, a survivor, recalls how the fire started, the frantic chaos of people trying to escape, and the terrifying horror as the fire and smoke consumed the building. The nightclub was not protected by fire sprinklers. His fiancée, Donna Mitchell, did not survive. After Robert recovered, he was asked to speak publicly about his experience at a coalition event. Feeney has become a champion of fire sprinkler systems in residences and in places of assembly, such as nightclubs.
