Its explosive popularity defined the childhood of generation after generation, and so it's no wonder that our little Italian friend is equally as popular in the speedrunning community. Of course, as with any competition, there are inevitably those who will do whatever it takes to get their name at the top of the leaderboard. In this video, we cover some of the many scandals that have plagued the Mario speedrunning community. These include the quest for the perfect 32 in Mario Kart 64, where runner Dan Burbank hoarded his times in order to finally pass legendary runner Matthias Rustemeyer on the scoreboards. We also look at the infamous holymoly2207, whose humble brag drew attention to a spliced Super Mario 64 run that he never thought would be discovered. Next, we go over the tragic tale of Chibi, and the hack he used to complete a difficult skip in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. We also look at the story of the blindfolded Mario 64 cheater, who can very clearly see through his blindfold while playing.
