The Sony Bravia 5 Is Awesome… and Bad (Review) In this review I test the Sony Bravia 5 (Bravia V) 65-inch mini-LED 4K TV with 120Hz, VRR, HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG, and the XR processor, priced at $1,299.99 with a one-year warranty. Measured with Portrait Displays CalMAN I saw SDR average Delta E ≈2.2 (mediocre) with some crushed shadows and RGB balance drift, but HDR average Delta E ≈2.83 (good) and BT.2020 coverage ≈74.09% (u’v’) delivering accurate HDR color; peak HDR brightness lands around 1,000 nits with ~600 nits in a 100% window—fine for movies mastered at 1,000 nits but underwhelming for high-impact gaming—while the ~384 local dimming zones yield ~10,000:1 contrast, noticeable blooming in dark scenes, and clearly trail the Bravia 9’s ~19,000:1; input lag was strong at ~29 ms at 120Hz (my fastest Sony so far) yet motion performance shows trailing vs OLED and TCL, though Sony’s motion interpolation helps movies; ambient light handling is good, viewing angles are mid, the semi-gloss finish and BGR sub-pixel make desktop text acceptable at a distance, sound is thin with limited bass, and the Google-like UI remains rock-solid with a proper Input button (not backlit) for a great day-to-day experience; verdict: excellent upscaling and low-bitrate cleanup, decent clarity and usability, but only average brightness/contrast/gaming motion—if you want Sony processing at this budget consider stepping up to Bravia 7, otherwise TCL QM7K offers stronger panel value; I rate Bravia 5 a meh 5/10.
