Ubud is located about 1 hour inland from Canggu, Kuta, Sanur, Seminayk and other well-known beach locations in Bali. Ubud is often considered the cultural and artistic center of Bali, and is known for its natural beauty, relaxed spiritual atmosphere, rice paddy fields and adventure sports. Bali is referred to as the “Island of the Gods” due to the island’s thousands of Hindu temples and religious sites, with Ubud being a prime example. Ubud is also a shopping paradise, and in this video of Living the Jo Life, we start off exploring the shops and markets in Ubud center before visiting some of the many temples you find scattered around the town. Despite our somewhat bad track record with macaques, we visit the Monkey Forest, where you are surrounded my macaques (and tourists). We also visit the stunning Ceking Rice Terrace north of Ubud, where you are rewarded with beautiful scenery and rice paddy fields, and it is the place where you can have the famous Instagram photos taken on one of the many swings. There is no shortness of restaurants and cafes in Ubud, with many of them catering for vegans, vegetarians and other dietary needs. While Ubud can be busy, noisy, and full of traffic, you are only a couple of minutes away for peaceful walking trails surrounded by picturesque rice paddy fields. We really enjoyed the view from some of the many cafes located in amongst the rice paddy fields. We attended one of the numerous cultural shows in Ubud, many of which are performed at the various temple complexes.
