Sansa Stark didn’t know what to expect when she arrived at the Wall, but even this went beyond her wildest expectations as she knelt before Bowen Marsh and the ruling council of the Night’s Watch. These were men selected to lead the order while a new Lord Commander will be selected. As for the last one, her bastard brother Jon Snow met with an unfortunate end, according to the First Steward. Bowen: Died during a ranging, he did. Sad to see one so young as him go. He would have risen high in the Night’s Watch. But he always had more courage than sense, and it couldn’t be helped. Sansa: I am saddened to hear of my brother's passing, my lord. I thank you for telling me this. Bowen: It is no worries, my lady. But I would like to hear your story and why you come here? Sansa: To answer the truth, I am not entirely sure either. All I know is this: I was a prisoner to the Lannisters, who sought to marry me to Ser Jaime in order to secure their hold over the North. And yet, this only furthered the divisions as the Boltons plotted against King Stannis arrived, having found my brother, Rickon Stark, and now claimed him as the Lord of Winterfell. Now, there are even reports that the Vale is riding to aid Stannis. Bowen: That is quite the story, my lady. You have my sympathy for having lost your home twice in such a short time. However, the Wall is not a refugee camp; this is a place for only men of the Night’s Watch. Unless you mean to take the Black. To her side, Daven Lannister glances at her. A part of him wants to bring up the fact that he sent a letter to Jaime, telling them of their location. And if he knows his cousin, he will be coming here with an army. However, as he glances at Bowen and the other men, he notices the nervous gaze they shoot each other. It is clear there is more to this that they are not saying, and he bites his lip. Daven: As generous an offer as that is, I do not think it is necessary. We simply request shelter until we can find a ship to take us home. Bowen: You can go to Eastwatch by the Sea. There should be a ship there willing to travel south to White Harbor or Gulltown. We can provide you an escort and have you settled there until the ship departs Daven: That should suffice, and we thank you for your help. The journey to Eastwatch takes several days. They travel along the length of the Wall, icy paths leading the way eastwards. However, in the older abandoned castles, these paths have fallen into disrepair, forcing them to descend and travel through the ground. During one of these trips, they descend nearby Sable Hall and take shelter in the keep. Daven and his men secure the castle while Brienne takes her inside. In truth, Sable Hall was little more than a ruin, with its main keep looking like it’s been gutted and emptied of its contents. The other buildings are little more than a few halls and collapsing sheds. Because of that, he does not notice the sound of footsteps until they are right on top of them. Brienne gasps as a figure stumbles through the halls, barreling through the collapsing doors and knocking them off their hinges entirely. She draws her sword and comes face-to-face with a massive boar. Behind him comes a wildling man bearing a long staff. Borroq the warg. Brienne shouts for the guards to form up with her, but the man raises his hand, and the boar lowers its head. Borroq: Peace, friends. I bring news you must know. That crow, the old Pomegranate, has been lying to you. It wasn’t no ranging that killed Jon Snow, it was him and all the others in their council. Sansa gasps, and even Brienne lowers her sword, commanding him to speak. So Borroq does, telling them everything. There were wildlings in Castle Black; they were there to be trained by Jon Snow and serve in the Night’s Watch. Just one of the many things that eventually turned the crows against him. The final slight came when he announced his plans of riding south to Winterfell and attacking Ramsey, breaking the Night's Watch’s neutrality.
