A lot of places are tailored for tourists, serving toned-down flavours and safe options. But in this video, I’m taking you deep into the local food scene for the real deal. First up – Manpu Seafood (มันปู ซีฟู้ด) – a brand new seafood spot that’s serving what might just be the best value tom yum noodles in Thailand. Fresh seafood straight off the boat into a bowl of spicy, sour, rich perfection. I also tried their khao na pu – a crab-on-rice dish featuring three types of fresh crab. This place has only been open a month so get down there before the crowds do. Next, we hit เรไร ไก่ย่าง (Ray Rai Grilled Chicken) – proper gai yang and somtum with a view that’s worth the trip alone. The standout? Tum mak hoong – a Luang Prabang-style papaya salad with fermented shrimp paste. Funky, spicy, absolutely banging. Last stop – Dinosaur Gai Yang (ร้านไดโนเสาร์). If you’re serious about your Thai grilled chicken, this one’s next level. Traditional spit-roast chicken that might just edge it over Ray Rai’s.
