Adding Pack Horses to Our Remote Alaskan Homestead | 12hr Trailer Pickup & Barn Clean

When we moved here, the barn on our homestead was only half-finished — but we’ve always had a vision for it. Our goal is to turn it into a working barn for pack animals. With horses, we’ll be able to access deep backcountry for remote hunting camps, pack out meat, reach distant fishing spots, run traplines, haul supplies, and even do a bit of horse logging when needed. Once it’s finished, the barn will also be home to our dairy goat herd — with a warm stall ready for kidding season come spring. We made the 6-hour trek to town (one way!) to hunt for a livestock trailer. After a few near-misses, we found a smaller straight-load that’ll do the job for now. Hauled it back to the homestead and got straight to work. Dinner after a long day: butter-roasted veggies, fresh sourdough, and sheep meat. The kind of meal that makes the work worth it!
