In the 18th century there were a few separate occasions where they focused on state-building as well. The Durrani's, under the leadership of Ahmad Shah, built their own empire from the malaise of Nader Shah's death in 1747. The Durrani Empire set a strong early precedent of launching invasions of India in order to gain loot that could be used to enrich their empire. In the process, the foundation was set for the modern nation-state of Afghanistan. Nevertheless, the fragile infrastructure of the Durrani Empire condemned it to come crashing down within 50 years of Ahmad Shah’s death.
