Out of all of these, the most unlikely candidate, the beylik of Osman, situated in the hinterlands of northwestern Anatolia, was the one that asserted its dominance above all the others. Within less than 100 yrs, it metamorphosed in a power whose reach spanned both Asia and Europe.
