This is the story of why veterans of the North African campaign would later speak of fighting Panzer IIIs with something unexpected in their voices. Not hatred. Not trauma. Something closer to respect. They had faced a formidable enemy and beaten it. The fight had been brutal, but it had been fair. What came after was something else entirely.
