Here’s what I’m planting NOW to feed us all winter ❄️

Long-storing veggies WITHOUT canning!⬇️ Heck yes!!! Of course, I still do my fair share of canning come harvest season, but there’s something so satisfying about skipping all the mess and being able to eat something semi-fresh in the middle of winter. Here’s what I pack away in fresh storage (and how long they last!): 🧅Onions: 6-8 months 🥔Potatoes: 4-6 months 🥕Carrots: 6-8 months 🎃Winter squash: 6-8 months 🍑Turnips & Rutabagas: 4-6 months The key to being successful is choosing varieties that are known to store well (and be sure to cure them properly). Not ALL potatoes or onions (for example) do well in storage! Here’s my favorite varieties: 🧅Onions: Sedona F1 🥔Potatoes: Red Chiefton 🥕Carrots: Bengala F1 🎃Winter squash: Havanna F1 Butternut Squash & Cinderella Pumpkins 🍑Turnips & Rutabagas: Scarlet Ohno Revival Turnip & Helenor Rutabaga *Garlic also stores well (I love Music Garlic), but that should be planted in the fall, so don’t plant that one just yet!
