Moving pastured meat birds to fresh grass daily is essential, however, the move can be challenging if the chicken tractor isn’t constructed with movement in mind! We love our chicken tractor design because it’s lightweight (yet sturdy!), and moves like a breeze! 💫 The key is to use corrugated fiberglass roofing for the covered sections and treated 2x2's for the frame. We built our chicken tractor 9 years ago and it's still going strong! The wheels on the back create a pivot point and a strap in front allows me to lift and pull. I’ve seen people use a dolly as well. It takes a week or so for the chicks to get used to it, but after a few moves they figure out that fresh greens are coming and they pretty much run to it 🌱. Raising pastured meat birds is such an awesome opportunity to become more self-sufficient, and they take very little time! I only spend 10 minutes a day moving the chicken tractor and topping off their feed/water. Have you considered raising your own meat chickens? I'd love to know! I also have a detailed coop tour video on YouTube if you'd like a closer look! 🫶🏼
