Mammotion 9th Mow-ment Alert! Go check it out! Although we’ve taken on renovation projects before back in Belgium, a renovation of this magnitude is entirely new to us. But it’s not impossible, as Philippe has already proven over the past two years. He’s come to this point now where the excavation of the hill behind the old barn is almost complete, and the result is that when it rains, the buildings stay nice and dry. That was one of the biggest goals for digging that section of land away in the first place. So this week is all about fine-tuning the excavation site. Philippe is working to get the soil to the right level so everything is properly prepared for the next steps. Those next steps will include putting in more than 100 meters of French drains, followed by geotextile and gravel to secure everything in place. With that fine-tuning almost complete, the focus will soon shift to the driveway. It started out semi-flat but not at the right level. Philippe had begun working on it last winter, but with the bad weather the project could not be finished, and what was left were mounds of sifted soil overgrown with grass. But that will not be for long. The back side of the barns will be inextricably connected to the front, as soil from the back will be used to raise the level at the front. Two separate projects becoming one. So as you can see, there is definitely still more work ahead.
