Best of all, it’s make-ahead friendly, making holiday mornings stress-free. ⸻ Ingredients French Toast Bake • 1 large loaf (about 18 oz) white bread (Brioche or French bread work best) • 6 large eggs • 2 cups eggnog • ½ teaspoon nutmeg • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Crumb Topping • ½ cup all-purpose flour • ½ cup brown sugar • 2 tablespoons white sugar • ½ teaspoon nutmeg • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon • ⅓ cup butter, melted ⸻ Instructions 1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or a 3-quart casserole dish. • If baking immediately, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). 2. Cut the bread into bite-sized pieces and place them evenly in the casserole dish. 3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, eggnog, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. 4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread. • Press down gently with a rubber spatula to make sure all bread pieces are soaked. 5. To make the crumb topping, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, white sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon. 6. Stir in the melted butter. • The mixture should resemble wet sand and form crumbles when squeezed. 7. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the bread mixture. ⸻ Baking Instructions Bake Immediately: • Place the casserole in the preheated oven. • Bake for 35–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. (Mine baked perfectly at 45 minutes.) Make-Ahead Option: • Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight. • When ready to bake, remove from the refrigerator and preheat the oven to 350°F. • Bake uncovered for 35–45 minutes, until golden and set. ⸻ Serving & Storage • Let cool for 5–10 minutes before slicing. • Serve warm with whipped cream and maple syrup. Storage: • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. • Reheat individual servings in the microwave. Freezer-Friendly: • Cut into individual portions and store in meal-prep containers. • Freeze for up to 3 months. • Microwave on high until heated through and serve.
